Knit Circle

On Friday, January 31, Urban Arts Space (UAS) opened its doors to the fiber community for Artist Commune: Knit Circle.

Each month UAS  hosts an Artist Commune event with a different theme. For the month of January I had to honor to pick the event's focus as well as plan, market, and execute hosting over 30 local crafters into the gallery space. After a lecture about the importance of combating fast fashion and the importance of preserving textile  practices we then spent the rest of our evening knitting and conversing with each other.

Hosting Knit Circle deepened my sense of connection and collaboration with fellow makers, many of whom I had just met. In this era, face-to-face discussions about how we can weave our future together are more important than ever. It was an honor to help create this space for the Columbus community.
Totes on Town

Urban Arts Space (UAS) is a student-run art gallery at The Ohio State University, located in downtown Columbus, Ohio. As part of its mission to engage the community, UAS hosts Artist Commune, a monthly programming event that collaborates with students, staff, and artists to explore themes relevant to current exhibitions.

In June of  2024, I took on the task of planning, marketing, and hosting our August Artist Commune workshop titled "Totes on Town." This interactive gathering welcomed guests into the gallery to screen print and personalize tote bags with the artists behind the Women’s Work exhibition, which was on display from August 20 to September 21, 2024. Women's Work highlighted the multimedia work of Alex McClay and Stephanie Berrie and utilized traditional methods of craft as a means of feminist expression.  Within this role I developed promotional materials, in collaboration with Bre Eicholt, and executed  social media outreach to over 5,000 followers across various social media platforms. Additionally, I communicated with senior gallery staff and the artists of Women's Work to establish a series of engaging activities for visitors and led a group of 10 volunteers in the set up and execution of the event.

"Totes on Town" achieved record attendance for an Artist Commune workshop, fostering community engagement and interaction with the Women's Work exhibition and the mission of Urban Arts Space.
Graphic Design

As a graphic designer at Urban Arts Space, I play a key role in shaping the visual identity of the gallery’s programming. I am responsible for communicating with artists to market over 15 events, ensuring that each design effectively captures the essence of the exhibition or program. In addition to supporting a wide range of events, I led the marketing efforts for my own planned and executed events, crafting promotional materials that resonate with diverse audiences. My designs have engaged thousands of viewers, increasing visibility and boosting post engagement across Urban Arts Space’s social media channels.
