Project Statement
While each project I worked on during my foundations year involved paper in some capacity, none of them have involved animating this material. For 'Dynamic Pages' and partner and I created a stop-motion video. Within our stop-motion animation we emphasize the rhythmic and repetitive nature of the song “Peach Sky” by Moodula through the use of movement, balance, and pattern within our forms. We use a contrast in warm and cool colors to push into the differences between our diptychs, while still maintaining unity through the use of reverberating circles within our respective parts of the stop-motion. Our choice to create a stop-motion video allowed us to focus our process on highlighting the ambiance of the music and learning how to use Adobe Premiere Pro.
Reflection
I enjoyed this project because it posed some unique challenges that I had yet to face in my design career. My partner and I both had limited access to transportation to get materials when we made this project. This barrier forced us to do a lot of the work on this project before we were even able to go shopping for materials. This meant that we had to quickly pivot on aspects of our color palette and composition because of material limitations that we hadn’t considered. Instead of devoting my energy towards worrying about these changes, I spent this project dedicating that meticulous spirit towards the organization of our photos and the creation of our video. In the end, I came out of this project with an understanding of how to encapsulate the energy and vibe of a certain medium and turn that into a separate design. This, combined with my new film editing skills, made for an incredibly rewarding project.
