Project Statement
Check Mate offered myself and a partner the ability to take an evolutionary perspective on the game of chess. Since the 6th century, chess and its pieces have evolved to match the aesthetics of their place of origin. With our chess board, we pay homage to this history while also discussing the possible future that lies ahead for the game. Our traditional color palette and use of materials harken back to the glossy ivory of many traditional boards allowing users with all levels of experience to feel familiar with the board. In addition to form, our pieces also have their own respective QR code, which links to a website that the user can use to learn about the particular history of that piece and its use within the game.

Reflection
This project tested me in a variety of skills. From cutting and etching acrylic for the first time, learning how to adhere the material together, and creating an entire website to go along with all of it there was always a new process to learn in this project. In many ways, this project feels like the true capstone of my past two semesters in the Foundations program and an embodiment of my desire to pursue a career in Industrial Design.
